Upon returning from a recent pastor’s conference, I was overwhelmed with thanksgiving as I unpacked my bags full of fresh new books! I needed filling. My spirit felt dry. If I say that now, I must take the full responsibility on myself, because I no longer have any excuse.

After posting a photo of the beautiful stack on my social media, I had a few folks ask for a  book list, so here it is!

Let me give a short caveat. This was a pastor’s conference. Several of these titles are intended for pastor’s eyes to help them as they shepherd their respective congregations. Hear me clearly. That does not mean you shouldn’t read them! It does mean however, that some of the language used may require you to slow down and research as you read.

I’ll be going through each of these over the next season. I encourage you to join me. I’ve noted the titles I’ve read before and recommend. Here’s my advice… dive in. Be challenged. Grow.

  1. The Holiness of God- R.C. Sproul (This book ought to be required reading for all Christians. I highly recommend.)
  2. 21 Servants of Sovereign Joy; Faithful, Flawed, and Fruitful- John Piper
  3. The Discipline of Grace-  Jerry Bridges
  4. Lloyd-Jones on the Christian Life: Doctrine and Life as Fuel and Fire (Theologians on the Christian Life)

  5. John G. Paton – The Autobiography of the Pioneer Missionary to the New Hebrides (Vanuatu)

  6. No Quick Fix: Where Higher Life Theology Came From, What It Is, and Why It’s Harmful; Andrew David Naselli

  7. Help for the New Pastor: Practical Advice for Your First Year of Ministry – Wingard

  8. Ligonier Ministries “Awakening” Prayer Guide
  9. Proclaiming a Cross-Centered Theology (Contributors: Thabiti M. Anyabwile, John MacArthur, John Piper, R.C. Sproul)

  10. Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God- J.I. Packer

  11. A Time for Confidence: Trusting God in a Post-Christian Society-Nichols

  12. The Whole Christ: Legalism, Antinomianism, and Gospel Assurance – Why the Marrow Controversy Still Matters- Ferguson

  13. Conscience: What It Is, How to Train It, and Loving Those Who Differ

  14. The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment-Burroughs

  15. The Valley of Vision: A Collection of Puritan Prayers & Devotions

I hope you will spend your spring and summer immersing yourself in some fresh literature!
