You and your family go to church when the doors are open, you never miss a morning devotion, you teach Sunday school, you tithe your ten percent, and still, things just don’t go right. It can be frustrating.
When Moses held up his hands the Israelites would win, when his hands got tired the Amalekites would be winning, so two men stood beside Moses supporting his hands and the Bible says, “his hands were steady till the going down of the sun.” The Israelites were victorious. We long to be like those two men who support the man of God so that the church can be victorious.
Not everyone loves to hunt as the weather turns cooler and even cold. Many die hard anglers find ways to make winter fishing trips and keep fresh fillets in the skillet all winter. Recently I hooked-up (no pun intended) with one such guy.
Filming your hunts is one of the most rewarding yet challenging things you can do in the woods. Hunting by itself is hard enough but when you add camera gear and a cameraman, things are taken to another level. It is the sportsman’s responsibility to know, understand, and honor the game laws that each government entity has set forth. At the end of the day, if we violate a game law out of ignorance, negligence, or intentionality, we still broke the law.
As a Christian, it would be inconsistent for me to believe that an animal like the American Bison remains today solely because of the conservation work of human involvement.
For weeks the weather had been perfectly cool, the migration right on time, and our host Heath Whitmore had even been sending us pictures of mallards and pintails killed just one week before our arrival.Surely God would bless this endeavor with full limits, perfectly framed kill shots and fellowship overflowing from pit blinds. Right?
What turned my thinking around wasn’t pulling myself up by my own boot straps and deleting Facebook off my phone. I needed to have my mind renewed by God’s word. Picking a spot on a target is just the beginning of a good shot.
There can be no bigger or more momentous date in our quests for self than the day you make a decision to begin living for Christ and surrender your life to Him.
